Privacy and advertising

Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Xournal Wiki may handle information when you browse the site, use download links, contact support or interact with advertising and third-party services.

Effective date: August 14, 2026

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the English website at xournal.wiki, its public pages and support communications sent to the site email address. It does not control the privacy practices of GitHub, the Xournal++ project, Google, an operating system vendor or another site linked from this website.

2. Information we may receive

When you browse a public page, the hosting provider, security services and embedded third-party services may process technical information such as an IP address, approximate region, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, requested URL, date and time, and error information. These records may be used for delivery, security, diagnostics, abuse prevention and aggregate measurement.

If you email support, we receive the email address, message content, attachments and any information you choose to include. Please do not send private notebooks, personal identity documents or sensitive information unless it is necessary for the question.

3. Cookies, web beacons and identifiers

The site and third-party providers may use cookies, local storage, web beacons, pixels, tags or similar technologies. These technologies can remember preferences, measure page visits, prevent abuse, limit repeated requests, understand advertising performance and associate activity with a browser or device identifier.

Cookies may be first-party or third-party. A web beacon or pixel is a small resource or code signal that can report that a page, advertisement or email was viewed. IP addresses and other online identifiers may be processed as technical or pseudonymous information under applicable law. You can use browser controls to block or delete cookies, but some page features, consent choices or advertising behavior may change.

4. Google products and advertising

Xournal Wiki may use Google products or services, including advertising products such as Google AdSense. Google and its partners may collect, share and use data about visitors through cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, advertising identifiers and similar technologies to deliver, measure, personalize or limit advertising, detect invalid traffic and improve their services. Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on a user's browser or use web beacons in connection with advertisements served on this site.

Google may use information about visits to this site and other sites to provide advertising and reporting. Your choices may be managed through browser settings, the advertising controls offered by Google or the consent experience displayed in your region. For an overview of how Google uses data when you use partner sites and apps, review How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

The presence of an advertisement does not mean that Xournal Wiki endorses the advertised product. Advertising availability, providers and personalization can change without notice.

5. How information may be used

Information may be used to operate and secure the site, respond to support requests, understand which guides are useful, diagnose broken links, maintain download pages, prevent automated abuse, comply with legal obligations and support advertising measurement where enabled. We aim to use aggregated or technical information where a personal response is not needed.

6. Sharing and service providers

We may share information with hosting, content delivery, security, analytics, advertising, email and infrastructure providers that help operate the site. Those providers may process information under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce site terms, protect users or investigate fraud and security incidents.

Download clicks lead to third-party project or release hosts. Once you leave xournal.wiki, the destination provider may process your request, IP address, browser information and download activity under its own policy.

7. Retention and security

Technical logs and support messages are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which they were collected, security, dispute handling, legal obligations or legitimate operational needs. No internet transmission or storage system is guaranteed to be completely secure. Use a trusted device and avoid sending confidential notebook files through ordinary email.

8. Your choices and requests

You may block cookies, use private browsing controls, adjust advertising preferences, disable optional browser storage where supported or contact us about a privacy request. A request should identify the relevant email address or browser interaction and explain what you want changed or deleted. Some technical records may need to be retained for security or legal reasons.

If local law gives you additional rights, such as access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction or portability, we will review a reasonably specific request and respond as required by applicable law.

9. Children

The site is a general software-information resource and is not directed at children under the minimum age required by applicable law. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information may contact us so the issue can be reviewed.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the site, advertising setup, legal requirements or third-party services change. The effective date above will be updated when the policy is revised.

Privacy questions can be sent to support@xournal.wiki. Please do not include passwords, payment details or unnecessary sensitive documents.
